Re: Original vehicle from an engine number

Useful information on engine numbers here https://www.mginfo.co.uk/upgrades4mgs/files/MG_Engine_numbers.pdf see page 4 MGB engines started with a G prefix eventually ending up with a 18V prefix. The info will also tell you if it is a non-MG engine. The MGB build records at Gaydon are stored by car n...

Re: Re-shell and DVLA

Peter Absolutely correct about MGB bodyshell manufacture locations in fact they arrived at Abingdon painted and partially trimmed. I wonder where the DVLA got their incorrect story from? The MIni I referred to earlier in this thread was initally rebuilt using a Heritage Shell (in fact we were the fi...

Re: Re-shell and DVLA

Richard Several years ago I rebuilt a Mini into a new bodyshell of an existing car. No need to tell the DVLA justt then get it MOTed. However a coulpe of years later the Mini was hit by another vehicle causing it tobe in insurance company terms written off. The wreck was purchased from the insurance...

Re: Re-shell and DVLA

Mike My Bantam is probably a little later than the one you rode though I know the original owner used it to get to work at Paxmans Diesels in Colchester. A long story in between then and now. It is in fact a 1958 built 59 registered D7 the ninth one off the production line and the oldest D7 known to...

Re: Re-shell and DVLA

Hi Bumpa BMH Shells do NOT carry a VIN number these can only be issued by manufacturers of complete cars and in some obsure cases the DVLA. BMH shells have abody number - which is NOT a VIN number. The DVLA do not record body numbers. The problem of your friend is that they appear to have tried to u...

Re: Re-shell and DVLA

Steve As Ian says check the provenance as far as possible. You don't say what year you car claims to be but here is one scene which MAY explain the situation. Up to a few years ago the tax exempt cut-off was 1973 and it stayed that way for many years. If you look at the figures of MGB surving on "Ho...

Re: Christmas Greetings

Best wishes for 2021 everyone - lets hope we can get the cars out for more than "essential" journeys.

Re: Re-shell and DVLA

As long as you are reshelling a roadster as a roadster or a GT as a GT providing you have a current V5c there is no need to inform the DVLA. The DVLA does not have information on Commission Numbers or body numbers only car numbers (VIN number) and engine numbers but even then the engine does not hav...

Re: New Member

Welcome to the MGB Forum. There can't be many cars still around still with their original owner after 48 years let alone one being restored by the owner - well done. It helps if we know what part of the country you are in - maybe local assistance available if required. Please fire away with the ques...

Re: Newbie request for help/recommendation. TQ

Stu Welcome to the MGCC and the MGB Register. No doubt others who live in Abingdon will join in but probably the best person to sort out you car is Steve of Abingdon Car Restorations. He did all the bodywork repairs and painted the Marathon MGB see https://marathonmgb.mgb-register.org/ Steve's phone...
