Re: 73 MGB GT restoration

Hi Ian, I have stripped away the majority of the exterior chrome, lights, trim etc now and ready to begin the prep stage. A few more questions if you dont mind me asking you! I was thinking of using an orbital sander to do the preliminary 'rough' sanding. Is this something that you used on your car,...

Re: 73 MGB GT restoration

Hi Ian, Ahh yes that's true! I definitely wont be using any concrete type blocks! I live in Mid-Devon so i suspect that we may be a ways away from one-another! I will try and do as much research on the matter over the next few weeks as i have only started dismantling the car last weekend! Luckily my...

Re: 73 MGB GT restoration

Hi Both, Thank you for the very useful replies! Peter: I actually think i have the MGB Restoration Manual by Lindsay Porter at home so i will definitely be giving that one a read! I think one of the main issues with the previous paint job was to do with the prep, as the paint just doesn't seem to ha...

73 MGB GT restoration

Afternoon all, I have finally got somewhere to store my MGB GT which means I can begin the restoration. I am going to first start with the exterior as it has had a pretty dreadful respray at some point in its life so a lot of paint is damaged or very bad quality. There are also a few patches of surf...

MGB GT Headlining

So one of the jobs on the list to do on my B GT restoration project is to re-do the headlining as the previous owner had painted them incredibly badly for some obscure reason?! I don't really fancy spending £400-£500 on a new headlining from Moss so was hoping to re-upholster my current ones. I see ...

MGB Reverse lights

Hi Guys, I have a 73 MGB GT with a slight problem. When i have the side or headlights on, both reversing lights turn on too (I have unplugged them completely for the moment so they aren't always on). Anyone have any idea what may be causing this, or where the short-circuit may lie? Kind Regards, Har...

Re: My new 1973 GT - anything i need to do?

Hi Peter, Ahh i see! It should be okay for now then, i may still replace it though as it can be used going forward. You would have thought i should have known that it contains ethanol! I will ensure to replace components with ethanol compatible parts. On this note, my Dad sent me an email yesterday ...

Re: My new 1973 GT - anything i need to do?

Hi Peter, Thanks for the reply! Yes that's what i was thinking, just replace things that are either needed or can be used again whilst undergoing restoration. I think i will need to replace the fuel pipes because 1 of them doesn't have a rubber end, it seems to have disintegrated or went missing, an...

My new 1973 GT - anything i need to do?

Hi Guys, So i picked up a Teal Blue '73 B GT a few weeks ago and im just currently waiting for the DVLA to process my re-registration (long story...). Unfortunately it didn't come with much info, i know a few bits have been replaced like the head gasket, sender unit and a few other bits and bobs but...

Re: Travel Tool Kit

I second the above, I too would like to know what essentials to take in the 'in case of emergency' toolkit! :)
