Re: 12H2709 ‘big head’
If you substitute '6' carbs for '4' (hs or hif) on a stock head you will lose low end torque and power. you will gain a bit over 5krpm. the rest of the engine has to be able to breath to make use of them. regarding the increase in power by putting a 12H2709 head on, i'm afraid it's so minimal that y...

Re: Toggle Switches Query
i cannot answer your question, but i would say beware reproductions and check spec. some cheap switches are only rated at 2 amps and without a relay your heater switch will draw ~5.

Re: Hidden Music Source
Slightly off-topic, but i think will be of interest to both Ruabon & Peter. Not far from you is a hill by the name of Bwlch-y-Groes. Just outside of Bala. Quite stunning scenery, but I also heard (in fact it was on a TV program recently) that it was used as a hillclimb proving track in the developme...

Re: valve seat inserts
I have to say that I have not come across the insert scrape test before. but even Peter Burgess told me that it's not easy to be able to tell if a head has been converted...even for him. i am not sure it's so straightforward, especially from a photo. i do hope you lapped the seats. they should be a ...

Re: New Member Question On Tyres
to answer your questions 1] pump is self priming 2] SU is the best solution for our cars. course now there are two - points or electronic. i have points and never tried the other 3] i carry a cheap facet pump from rallydesign.co.uk. £15 and it can be fit in line with the SU but under the bonnet. som...

Re: SU Carb needle profiles
Mike well the best way to find out what is happening is with an AFR sensor. I run one with my supercharger as it's crucial not to go too lean. It sounds like your needle is ok at idle, ok up top (good power), but far too rich at cruise type speeds. that's how i found most off the shelf needles and i...

Re: New Member Question On Tyres
Regarding tyres, my one piece of advice would be buy a decent set and don't be tempted to save a few pounds on budget tyres thinking "it's a second car..." second or third car, you still need grip. and the tyre is the only thing that keeps you planted. But i would tend to take a different view to Pe...

Re: Oil pressure
The problem is not removing the relief valve, it's getting it back. access is limited and the spring is strong. ideally 2 people, one above and one below. john twist has a vid of a technique but to be honest it's more common sense than anything really. i also have only removed it with engine out. so...
