Not sure what colour it was originally, could have been red as I have seen that on one of the invoice from the history that came with the car. I’ve got invoices and mots since 1976 I think.
I’d like to know more of the history of the car (previous colour if applicable, where it has been, any modification (although PO has put a Webber 45 dcoe 13 carburator in) but not sure where to go to find that kind of information.

Remy, I would guess that if you look under the dash or under the rear floor, or elsewhere in a hidden spot you may find the original colour.

If the car has been rebodied with a new shell then obviously that will not be possible. You can pick up clues about whether the body is original by looking at small differences which exist between the 1971 body and the BMH body shells. You need to check all of the numbers on the identification plates, that will also be a clue, but someone may simply have attached the old plates to the new body.

As an initial step I would recommend getting a build certificate from BMH ( (British Motor Heritage). This will tell you when the car was built and it's original specification, including colour.
You should find their website easily. It costs a bit, but is well worth having.

Thanks Ian,
I'll have a look at it. From looking at the invoice history,there was a lot of work done on it from one of the owner from 1997 to 2016, possibly a rebuilt but I need to look at it in more detail. Love the colour though, her name is Andrea Gingerbelle. Story behind the name is that I got the money from part of my grandad inheritance, his name was Andre, and the colour gave her the first part of her surname.

That's a good name for a car!

I like the bold 1970s colours. I've just just restored mine in Mallard Green which is what it left the factory with. A Heritage Certificate is well worth getting, although mine actually misstated the body colour. It said Tundra Green but the tailgate lock cover and engine bay were Mallard. I think the confusion arose because the car was built in August which was the change-over month from one shade of green to another.

I got in touch with a previous owner who had the car for 20 years. Told me that when he bought it, the car was kept for five years in a garage covered with rags and boxes. When he looked in the car he said that a vixen and her cubs had made a den in it! They disturbed them when they looked in the car,
He more or less did a full rebuilt, had it stripped to bare metal and sprayed in the current colour. Believed to be red originally. I'll find out when I get the certificate. New engine 6 years ago, stainless steal exhaust and lots of body work as it was crumbling with rust.
He seemed very happy to have news from the old girl! Pays to get in touch with previous owners!
