Re: Aerial on wing

Hi Attached below is the official instructions issued by Radiomobile to the Factor for the position and installation of aerial and radio into an MGB. I have only scanned the first page showing the for the positional dimensions for the aerial. (My neighbour us the ex chief electrical engineer at MG b...

Re: Aerial on wing

Hi Chris I'm not aware there is a standard dimension for this. I would suggest drilling the hole somewhere between the door and inner front wing splash panel. This will allow the Aerial to retract into the wing void behind the splash panel. Might be worth removing the splash panel to get a better id...

Re: Inlet manifolds

Hi Just measured the original exhaust manifold from my 74 B with a Vernier caliper. The average, after measuring across all flanges is 12 mm or 0.47”. 15/32” (According to my Zeus tables). I can’t measure the inlet manifold as its fitted to the car with a 3 branch manifold but would assume the flang...

Re: Odd engine number

Hi Paul Looked through all my books but can’t find an 18U engine listed for an MGB. As you mention, is it possible the V has been mistaken for a U? As Vic states the 18V780 was fitted to early rubber bumper cars and built to ECE 15 emissions regulation with HIF carbs, AAU needles and 25D Distributor...

Re: Dragging disc brakes

Hi Tom This must be really frustrating. Not sure if might help .i changed the discs and pads on my fiesta runabout about 6 months ago. All OK but after about 6 weeks the off side brake stated squealing under braking. I took the pads out and with a file, very lightly dressed the edges of the pads. So...

Re: Dragging disc brakes

Hi Tom When in production at Abingdon, MGB 'S were never fitted with brake pad shims. I change the original brake pads fitted to my MGB last year. After 46 years they were not worn out but seemed to have gone hard. There were no shims behind the pads. I fitted Mintex pads and am very pleased with th...

Re: Inexistent horn bullet terminal

Hi Remy As Paul mentioned it depends on the wheel fitted. Attached are a couple of pictures that might help. I suspect you are missing the brush contact. This is readily available from the specialist suppliers Part No BHA5041. Alternatively have a look on the internet for an original item. (More cha...

Re: Wipers not parking

Hi Andy A little frustrating but I think you are making progress. I suggest the next step is to remove the plug (Not easy) from the wiper motor and with your tester check you have 12 volts on the Green/pink pin with the ignition switched on. This is the live feed to the parking switch to keeps power...

Re: Ballast Resistor location

Hi Charles There are several solutions to this but as your car looks very original I would suggest the following approach. Replace the existing ignition relay with a Lucas type SRB400 relay. This has the same round 26RA shape as the existing relay. The only issue is that it has a blue body but I thi...
