Re: Aerial on wing

That's where the electric aerial on my 77 BGT is. It's on the driver's side. It's away from roadside vegetation and there's no interference from the ignition system at all.

Re: Odd engine number

According to my workshop manual, the 18V779 & 780 engines were the predecessors of the 847. The former were to ECE 15 emissions regulations as were the 847, and are pre 1976 so they're likely to be fitted to early rubber bumper cars. They have a 25D4 distributor whereas the 847 had a 45D4. Hope ...

Re: mgb parts

I presume you mean the Otter switch in the radiator top tank. The plug for it is part of the wiring harness . If that's broken you'll have to make s connector to bridge the switch contacts.
The Otter switch itself is URP 1126 and its sealing bush is URP 10

Re: Can’t refit Distributor!

I presume the distributor drive hasn't been fitted 180 degrees out. It happens. Decades ago I bought a nearly new Gold Seal engine for £10 for my 1955 Series 2 Morris Oxford. It wouldn't start and we eventually discovered the distributor drive was 180 degrees out. 2 & 4 plug leads swapped and th...

Re: Bench test

Steve, have you tried the original supplier?. Personally I think the 123 is a waste of time. I fitted one to my Land Rover, set up per the book and it was down on power. I fitted the correct Lucas distributor equipped with Charles Kettering's antiquated points and condenser system, roughly timed it ...

Re: Thermal switch (URP1126) not playing properly

Phil, from experience it's best to bleed the brakes with either a pressure or vacuum system then you don't have to unscrew the brake warning light switch under the master cylinder. Mine broke but with a mirror and a small screwdriver I was lucky in managing to unscrew the broken bit without having t...

Re: Thermal switch (URP1126) not playing properly

Phil, you could wire a manual switch to switch the fan on manually if you're worried but I'd leave as is. The gauge probably overreads a bit anyway.
You've cured the fault so best leave alone.
