Re: MGBGT door hinge problems

David, I can't answer your questions directly, but if the part numbers for the hinges are different then it suggests top and bottom are not identical (and vice-versa of course). I've not had to replace the door hinges on my '72, they do seem very long lasting. Even if you have a little play in the l...

Re: Inlet manifolds

Ray, it did occur to me that the exhaust manifold with the thin flange might be an aftermarket tubular manifold? Are you sure it is the standard cast iron job?
Just a thought!

Re: Inlet manifolds

I have measured my spares (off the car) which seem the same as the ones fitted to my 72 BGT (which are difficult to measure of course). The measurements differ from what you have indicated. Inlet: 12H2368 (?). is 0.445 inches thick. Exhaust: 12H3911 is 0.445 inches thick These measurements are midwa...

Re: Inlet manifolds

Ray, I have some inlet and exhaust manifolds which I can measure for you if that would help. I also have the original manifolds on my '72 BGT which I can measure.

Re: Odd engine number

Clearly an 18V engine!

18 = 1.8 litres
V = "vertical". i.e in line cylinders.

I can't imagine that designation being changed, unless "U" means " down under" 😁😁

Re: Mild vacuum leak, replace HS4 carbs?

I have a Gunson mixture tuning set, but they are of limited use I think. They can set the mixture at idle, but that is assuming the needles are correct for the full range of throttle settings. I have found that getting the carbs balanced, and then checking the mixture settings by performance checkin...

Re: Mild vacuum leak, replace HS4 carbs?

I'm a little unsure of the question you are asking, but my experience suggests that a fully functioning set of carbs is well worth the investment. I have always got away with fitting new spindles and jets into the original bodies. The spindles may still be a little loose if the aluminium bodies are ...

Re: Can’t refit Distributor!

Garry - you have got the clamp completely loose I trust? Not attached to the block and loose around the distributor?

Re: Bench test

Steve, I guess it depends on exactly what you want to test? I believe that most engine tuning companies/rolling roads would be able to plot out the advance curve, but the manufacturer would be the place to get a comprehensive test.
Look for local rolling roads and ask for advice.
