That really is a great idea - simple but brilliant! I am sure that there are a lot of people who have cursed the K&N filters when replacing them.

Hi Russ, A couple more thoughts regarding rubber bumper or not:- the overdrive switch on an early rubber bumper MGB is a stalk on the steering column and the choke control is a "Tee" rather than a round knob - that car certainly has the latter. There is nothing "sporty" about any current offerings - I now take the view that "MG" should have stopped in 2005.

Hi Paul,

I have tried the silicone gaskets, but have gone back to the original cork variety - in my experience, they do seem to seal better.

Hi Allan, I would also check that you have good earth connections. Particularly the battery to the body and the earth from the body to the gearbox - which on a late car is at the back of the gearbox. I had a problem a few years ago with a poor earth on my 1979 GT ( for a different totally reason) an...
