Re: Running on suddenly.

Some great science in the replies here. The solution was a lot more basic than this, My usual practice is to set the static timing approximately then start the engine with the distributor clamp loose so i can turn the distributor whilst pointing the timing light at the crankshaft pulley with the oth...

Re: Can’t refit Distributor!

I had the same trouble when i changed my distributor very recently and for a while I even doubted it was the right diameter. The trick is to keep turning the inner shaft round until it engages. Bear in mind the distributor (and camshaft) turn once for every two turns of the crankshaft. If the distri...

Re: Radiator in the garage

Logistically though if you do decide to install a radiator in the garage it is a simple enough DIY job. Use isolation valves near where you are connecting in to the existing flow and return pipework to ensure you can close off the run to the garage whenever needed. If you need to run pipe outdoors o...

Re: Running on suddenly.

Thanks. Im waiting to hear back from Accuspark that the distributor supplied is a 41610 as the type number wasnt mentioned during the sales process or on the invoice. Could the wrong advance curve really be causing the running on when the car is being run at idle though ? If the timing is set to boo...

Re: Running on suddenly.

The original 45D had a damaged screw that retains the distributor cap clip on one side as this was caught in a chain whilst taking the engine out to tidy up the engine bay a couple of years ago. My rationale was just to replace like for like to ensure the distributor cap doesnt work lose and whilst ...

Re: Running on suddenly.

Thanks for the help and ideas. It is an 18V engine that's original to the car. The car has covered only around 1000 miles since the previous owner had the engine rebuilt so hopefully shouldn't have had a lot of opportunity to become coked. It is though running on particularly old fuel and as the car...

Running on suddenly.

I replaced my damaged 45D4 distributor on my 1979 BGT with an Accuspark one and just went to set the timing.. After getting the static timing pointed to No 1 and close enough to get th engine running I timed it at around 12 degrees using a Gunsons advanced timing light with the vacuum advance discon...
