Re: Window Winder Handles

Thanks Ian. I have tried inserting a washer between the handle and the hexagon but to achieve enough clearance the handle no longer contacts the hexagon securely. The car has aftermarket chrome handles, so maybe that's the problem. I am going to try and make spacers like Paul recommended. Having had...

Re: Window Winder Handles

Paul, that's really helpful. Thanks. I didn't know such things were available. I note that the ones from the US are 3D printed. I have a 3D printer but am not too clever with design programmes. I must have a go at those.

Window Winder Handles

The plastic winder handles on my MGB are tight up against the covering of the door cards so that turning them is marking the vinyl. I have tried putting a large washer inside the handle but that has the effect of disengaging the handle from the hexagon on the mechanism. I notice that on the RV8 the ...

Re: Light knocking noise in the engine.

Clearances in engines are much closer than you would think. I woked on an engine where the crank webs were within a few thou of striking the block casting. Dredging my memory, aren't the con rods designed to be only way round? Could yours have been installed the wrong way round, I mean with the fron...

Re: Dragging disc brakes

What age is the MGB? What kind of brake light switch does it have, the hydraulic one plugged into the four-way union, or the mechanical one operated by the pedal? If the latter type, it is not unknown for the switch to be holding the pedal from reaching its rest. Try unscrewing the switch and see if...

Re: new to forum

I don't want to be a doom merchant, but you appear to have corrosion in the lower rear fender. The sill, which is the structural part of the car, runs from the front wheel right back to the rear wheel, so large parts of it are hidden behind the fenders. Rust on the outer panel usually means the sill...

Re: MOT Exemption.

That would be right. The computerised MOT history only goes back to 2006. Since your car hasn't had a test in all that time the record is correct. When I put my Dolomite back on the road after 26 years laid up, the same thing happened.

Re: Inexistent horn bullet terminal

OK Remy. That is an aftermarket wheel and is the same as is shown on Paul Hunt's web page. I have taken the liberty of copying his useful picture. hp10.jpg The wire that you see going through the hole should be soldered to the ring behind the wheel. If you take off the shrouds round the column you w...

Re: Inexistent horn bullet terminal

As with many questions, I always like to have a look at Paul Hunt's comprehensive MGB site mgb-stuff.org.uk If you go to the home page there click on Spanners to enter the technical sections, which are large and really helpful. For the horn push fitted to various models of MGB go to http://mgb-stuff...
