JB weld

Post by Steven collins »

Damaged my aluminium wheel on my daily thanks to a thoughtless driver, was thinking of using JB weld to smooth out the damage prior to getting the wheel professionally finished. Has anyone on here used it and if so what are your thoughts?
Thanks in advance.

We have used it for many repairs - accident damaged radiators on race bikes etc. I have always found it works well as long as the prep is good - must have a good key into the repair.
However, if you are going to get the wheel professionally finished you may find that they would prefer to do the whole job, and it may be hardly any more cost involved?

Thanks Ian,
As you can see damage is around the edge.

Unless you can clean every surface so it’s got a good key, you’re probably just going to be throwing shrapnel at everyone as it comes off. Probably better to lightly sand, and either rattle can or hand paint the same silver colour. Believe me, in a few week it won’t be so glaringly obvious, it will make the wheel refurbishment easier as well.

Polished rims probably better professionally refurbished but if it's likely to happen again then wet and dry the area to a polish and then a clear oat lacquer. Or search YouTube for wheel refurbishment.
Good luck Rob
