Clicking noise when engaging starter on MGB V8

Post by Chris Danner »

Could anyone help please. I have factory 75 MGBGT V8, new battery and not so old starter. Recently the starter motor fails to turn the engine over and you just get a loud 'click', after several attempts it usually turns the engine over and starts. Normally OK when cold.
I suspect a bad earth somewhere?? or it could be the Starter motor or solenoid is a about to give up???? Before I spend over £300 on a new high torque motor could you tell me where the earth straps are located on the V8 and any other pearls of wisdom please to try and sort this out.
Much appreciated

Have you checked the battery terminals and earth strap?

Hi Vic,

YES!!! I did a visual and they looked fine.....however in desperation I removed them and cleaned the leads and rubbed the metal contact faces down with sandpaper......fired up first time and ever since. Thanks for the tip.....its a note to all MG owners......check your Earth's!!!
