Which Black Paint code?

Post by joneseyracing »

Apologies if this has been covered before and I have not found it....in a moment of madness I decided to rescue a 1979 BGT which now needs a partial repaint.
I understand there were five Black paint codes used on the MGB viz;
BLBK1
BK1
BLVC122
90PMA
BLVB122
Are they all the same or if not how can I ascertain which one to use on my B?

Many thanks
Jonesey

I suspect these may be paint manufacturers codes?

Get hold of Clausager's book "Original MGB" . That should answer all of your questions.

Jonesey - for the record:

Clausager lists the following for "Black" as a body colour:

BMC/BL codes - BK 1, BLVC 90
ICI code - KE47

Other codes listed are for US companies.

I would favour asking for BLVC 90 as this seems to be the common format for paint codes (British Leyland Vehicle Colour).

Of course many other parts of the car were painted "Black", such as the heater box, the wheels, radiator and surrounds etc. Some of these "Blacks" may be satin black or matt black.

As it is a late model the BL code sounds promising.
Very much appreciated - thanks.
