Fitted fresh air cleaner elements to my Rubber Bumper GT prior to friend Paul (diehard chrome bumper MGB fanatic) driving a Rubber Bumper for the first time. After a spirited drive up the Udimore Road (some lovely tight bends) any Rubber Bumper prejudices were blown to the weeds-he was greatly impressed and somewaht surprised how well a standard, albeit low mileage, 1979 MGB GT can go and handle. Also managed to get some running-in miles on my 1966 B. Only another 388 miles to go before the head can be re-tightened and an oil change before allowing greater use of revs. Can't wait!!

After a nice sunny day on Saturday I decided to take the hardtop off the TF.
Then went to Kimber House this afternoon, when I came out it had rained so drove home with a soggy bottom.

Had a great day out in the MGB, cold to start with, Took the roof down mid morning, long job being a pack away model.
Drove a 60 mile route with the MG Newbury group finishing up at the Dog House for lunch, just outside Abingdon, the B went like a dream.

Another one is back!

About 5 years ago JW flagged up a 73 BGT which needed rescuing in Hornchurch parked in a damp garage for 6 years.
Engine not seized but brakes were and all the usual problems. Trailored away to a mega rebuild.

After many years of hard work by the owner, not me, including a body rebuild, a respray, a webasto sunshine roof, complete retrim and brakes etc along with a full engine rebuild it was finally started for the first time on Sunday. Should be MOTed later this month.

Took my MGB over to witness, assist, give moral support and man the fire extingishers but they were not needed.

Just the final details now

Drove down to the Goodwood 73rd members' meeting in my newly rebuilt '66 MGBGT in tandem with friend Paul in his '69 BGT. Fantastic day and especially good to see the ex Le Mans MGB of Barry Sidery-Smith (not driven by him) triumph over an eclectic field in the Les Leston Cup which included Lotus Elans, Elites and two very quick TVR's. Back in the pits I tried to have a word with Barry, but he was surrounded by well-wishers even though, to his amusement, he kept pointing out that he had not been driving the car as he was in a Triumph TRS which was some way down the field. Superb day, far less crowded than the Revival and full of enthusiasts rather than poseurs. There were even two Frontline LE50 BGT's in the members' paddock.

Got the big hammer out on the rear chassis legs to see what fell off. Loads of encrusted underseal on the inner arches but as yet, better than expected. Been lucky with a good selection of BMH panels on eBay so I can really get my teeth into it. Looking forward to the big restoration, just have to decide whether to convert to chrome at some near point in the future. Beginning to think standard is best, just got to get used to Tahiti Blue...

251 GRW - a 65 roadster was completed at Abingdon on the 3rd May 1965.

So for its 50th birthday today down to Brands and a trip around the circuit in the parade lap.

I have at last got a good fit for the new front wing on my roadster! It's been on the car, off the car many times over the last couple of weeks. I did eventually find this web site (http://www.middlebank.co.uk/Coachwork/frontwing.html) which gives an order for fitting the bolts, and low and behold it fits! After a bit of fettling the fit is as good as the old wing was, but the door could do with a bit of for and aft adjustment to get the front and rear shutlines the same, and also to move the top of the door into the car a little to match the curve of the wing. All the inner panels are now undersealed, and today the wing is coming off again (when it stops raining!) so it can go for partial painting (priming + top coat in the door shut and around the front light holes and windscreen hole). When that is done, I can then do the final fit and take the whole car for the wing to be finally sprayed and matched into the rest of the body.
It should be well ready for the Silverstone weekend.
Then it's some further suspension work on the front dampers to fit competition valves and a 3/4" antiroll bar, not to mention fitting the vast box of bits I have to the engine!!!
It's a hobby - I'm told!

The front wing is away at the painters, and is being primed, top coated in the areas inaccessible once the wing is fitted finally, and also to be undersealed. Hopefully that will be back early this week.

So I've busied myself fitting some MX5 seats ( see topic on 'Seats' in the 'General Index'). I must say they are very comfortable and (hopefully) will make the car better for long distance touring.
