Hello! Waves laconically from the fence. I’ve just returned to the classic MG fold, after quite a few years with “modern” classics (mainly Mercedes), however my last was an Opel Manta hatchback which turned into an absolute money pit and appears to be unsaleable, even though it is now very good. Still, I am a fool and easily separated from my money.
Hence, the return to MGs, with the thought to buy a good looking, simple-ish, high parts availability ragtop with good forum support and clubs. I’m not even a hobby mechanic, so admire those who take on bodywork restorations and swap out gearboxes gaily before lunch! But I grew up with alternate Sunday morning oil and water checks on the cars so am not a total loss

. We’ve also ran older EVs for the last five years, they make the most perfect second /shopping car.
It had to be a rubber bumper variant for me.

Looks great in the photos, but I don't like the shiny oversills. They are sometimes used to cover corrosion. They probably aren't in a car as smart as that, but the mere fact of them being there makes a trap for dampness to be held against the sills and lower wing panels. If it was mine they would have to come off.

On and off for the last couple of years, but this one has such a striking interior (ex Mirror Trim demo car) and the smaller steering wheel so my legs fit under it easier

As said previously I would remove the sill covers immediately and bin them.

If you do decide to keep the sill covers I'd recommend removing to brush the sills with a couple of coats of Wayoyl or Dinitrol etc before putting them back, just to prevent them becoming a future rust trap.
What size steering wheel does it have ? Im trying to decide on the right wheel size for my GT at the moment. Steering effort isnt a factor as I have power steering

Hi, it’s 34cm / 13.5 inches. I don’t have PAS and it seems to give plenty of steering force.
