MGB shuddering and misfiring

Post by Remyd »

Good morning,
My 1971 MGB GT was shuddering and misfiring a lot when I took it out for a drive this morning.
It was shuddering before a few month ago but not as bad as today. I changed the plugs last Sunday and that improved the driving a lot. It was fine when I went to a car show on Monday. Even after the car was warmed up, the same things were happening.
As anyone got any ideas about what is going on?

Thanks in advance.

Points or electronic ignition Remy?

Have you checked the Leads, Rotor Arm and dizzy cap?
there is also an earth wire inside the distributor going from the dizzy body to the moving plate.
is the heater valve leaking? this is directly above the distributor.

Hi Paul,
Points, use to have an electronic but got changed as it was damaged.
I haven't checked all that you suggested, after reading about it, I could try to change the points and Rotor Arm as I don't know how old they are but I am not entirely sure how to do it.
The heater valve was changed two years ago, last time it leaked on the distributor, the car stopped completely but I'll check that too.

TBH it could be many things - Condenser/Coil these 2 will make it worse once they get warm.
check the little hose ends on the pipe fitted between the distributor and carb this adjusts the advance
