2015 marks the 50th anniversary of the launch of the MGB GT and the MGB Register are starting to plan celebrations , does any body know the colour of either , the first GT off the line , the first GT press car or the first GT used for publicity.

As you probably know the first RHD GT (according to Clausager - yet again) was car number 71933 and LHD 71963.
I am sure our friends at BMHIT at Gaydon could give you the answer to the colour question.
The Knowles book on MGB shows various press photos with GTs registered ERX498C (beige), CDE943D (red) and HOP802E (white)
The February 1966 road test of the MGB GT in the "Motor" magazine used a GT registered EOJ221C but the pictures are black and white.
As ERX was a Berkshire registration I would guess that it was a factory car. HOP and EOJ are Birmingham where the press office of BMC was located so are probably press cars yet CDE is Pembrokeshire suggesting a locally sourced car for the photo.

I have been following up leads with The Motor Heritage Museum Gaydon as suggested by George , the first RHD MGB GT was produced between 29th Sept and 12th Oct 1965, Chassis number GHD3 71933 , Colour Mineral Blue . Watch the MGB Register Web site and the Forum to see how the MGB Register will be celebrating 50 years since the model was launched.

Hi, Am a very lucky owner of an MGB GT (Reg Number EOJ 221C) who's first owner was the press dept at BMC it was used in the road tests for British Car Magazines Autocar and The Motor , i have been trying to trace the history with the help of the MG Clubs and Autocar but i have not been able to find out anything from when the car was with BMC.
I was just wondering if there was anyone who know of anyone who worked for BMC in the press dept around 1965 to 1966 who i could contact or anyone that has some info re the MG'S that were used by the press dept. any info would be very helpful including photo's etc.
Thanks for reading
Steve
