Best Exhaust System

Post by Umaltie » Wed Feb 12, 2020 1:54 pm

I had the TT system and thought it too loud, switched to the Bell system. Neither were/are tinny in any way....

I would really like to see the TT system with 2 mufflers!

See my post ref this.

My car has the Big bore (2" dia) Stainless Steel (MGB 320) Bell System with a single silencer. I managed to get a Magnaflow muffler fitted (14" resonator) yesterday. That does seem to have calmed things down but still sounds quite throaty.

I've got a Double S 2" stainless steel system with matching 3 branch manifold and a single rear silencer. It's neither tinny or too noisy, just a little throaty.

I've seen a couple of NOS one-piece mild steel exhausts for sale. Apart from the logistical nightmare of transporting them, do we think they would still be ok for use (e.g. wadding not deteriorated)?

I'm keen to hear how a B would have sounded originally.

Tom, if they haven't been used and been dry stored I would think that they would be fine. The full sized middle box might give problems though, especially if you have made the B any lower (hence the popularity of the "bomb" type middle box).
Would I buy them? Well it might depend on price, but unless you enjoy fitting exhausts then the reasonably priced stainless steel units have a lot to be said for them.
